whati… have in my freezer

when keith was here last week, we were watching man vs. food and adam (first name basis, obvi) was at a boston restaurant that’s food is so spicy it makes grown men cry. once the tears begin, the waiter brings the crybaby a creamsicle on a platter while the entire restaurant chants, “WIMP! WIMP! WIMP!”

we laughed at the wimp.

then immediately started craving creamsicles.

being the hero that he is, keith jumped up and ran down to the grocery to grab a box of these tangy, creamy treats. he then proceeded to demolish two of them in record speed. today i got a request that i “save him a few”. the guy won’t be back until thanksgiving… if he thinks he’ll see a creamsicle two weeks from now he is sorely mistaken.

luckily he knows where to find more.

also, in an attempt to be domestic and creative, i want to try to create these on my own. using this recipe.

and why stop there!? popsicles are the new cupcakes… look at these beautiful after dinner treats! (many of them are actually low-cal… ! )

1. kiwi ice pops
2. peach rice pudding pops
3. orange banana smoothie pops
4. plum smoothie pops
5. apple cider & rosemary pop
6. mocha pop
7. mint chocolate pop
8. peach & coconut riesling pops

and remember you can make these babies without popsicle molds! all you need is a few disposable dixie cups.check out all 50+ incredible popsicle recipes- there is one for any palette or party!

p.s. did you know the popsicle originated on a cold night in san francisco!? in 1905 frank epperson left a cup with powdered soda (what is that!!??) and water on his front porch over night- the temp dropped to 27F, and before he knew it frank had invented something so extraordinary that it would be blogged about 100 years later. read more here.

whati… want to share with you

first of all, we have some business to go over.

a. the 30x30 remix challenge.  i have not been diligent about posting daily photos- but i will catch up this weekend.  i don’t know how daily outfit fashion bloggers do it!  i don’t want to see what i look like every day before OR after work, i hate uploading pics to my comp, and editing each one takes FURRever.  kudos ladies of the fashion blahgs.

b. BIG WHATI NEWS.  whati will be going through some major changes and relocating this weekend.  stay tuned for more information on that.  (i know, you’re on the edge of your seat.)

now- the meat of this post: these wacky images from the anthropologie winter catalog.  for me, its the perfect juxtaposition of bohemian style and funky animal friends.

i clearly love all things aesthetically weird, but how does everyone else feel about these photos?

want a turtle cuff?

whati… mused

a couple of weeks ago my roomie and i were lucky enough to be guests of an artist performing at the sfmoma - (san francisco museum of modern art if that wasn’t clear.)  the museum was handing out these stickers with printed directions requesting that you stick the little sucker to something that inspires you, snap a pic, and then post the image to the sfmoma facebook/flickr site.

never one to break the rules, thats just what i did.  exhibit a: pic of lake tahoe from aboard the m.s. dixie II.

check out some of the other entries here! (don’t know how someone can find inspiration from a parking meter, but who am i to judge?) by the way, i absolutely love this idea.  what’s your muse? -gh

whati… took home

first of all: 30x30 remix challenge day 2

i had a rotten day.  a no good, sucky, busy, never-ending day.  at 5:45 when i finally got back to the city from work, my one track mind was focused on my couch and my couch only.  and a creamsicle.  a creamsicle only.

when i got off the train, something from somewhere deep within prompted me to ask the trolley driver if my bus pass worked his fancy little contraption.  guess what?  it does.  only took a year of commuting and a bummer of a day to figure that one out.

it was dark, it was freezing, it was raining, and it was perfect!  great ending to a not very great day.

whati… weekend in tahoe

this weekend, kbl and i grabbed a (hybrid) zip car, threw a change of clothes and some snacks in the back - and headed up into the sierra nevadas for a weekend getaway to lake tahoe.

the drive up was some serious beauty.  unfortunately for keith, i alternated between these 2 phrases: ”wowww, look at that view!” & “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!  DON’T TAKE YOUR EYES OF THE ROAD!!!!”  (major switchbacks+major dropoff = major backseat driver.)

(side note: the sheer delight in his face is not from the view- but from stepping out of the car to see me with my yoga pants tucked into my thick socks.  high altitudes will do crazy things to your mind.)

in 3.5 hours we felt worlds away from san francisco, as we shook hands with a fake mark twain and stepped aboard the m.s. dixie II for a tour of the emerald bay.

it was both beautiful and cold.  we were happy to have hats.  we were happy to have m.s. dixie II’s new england clam chowder bread bowl.

keith’s body reacted naturally to his new environment and he sprouted a fuzzy warm stash to keep his lip warm.

our hotel was incredible- details to come.  we had a relaxing weekend and loved every second of it.  we even loved the rainy seconds, but to be honest, they encouraged an early return to san francisco.  or so we thought.

it had been rainy and partially snowy all day, but once we we got through south lake tahoe we got stopped in a line of traffic being turned around to put chains on their tires.  ”eh we won’t have to chain this rental car” we thought.  ”they’ll make an exception for us since we’re just visitors” we thought.  ”this car is a hybrid, they’ll appreciate our concern for the envinroment and let us through anyway” we thought.

we thought wrong.

we had to suck it up and buy the chains with the 50 other tourists in the chevron forking out their hard earned cash for a bag o’ chains.  who knew?

after deciding that all we could do was suck it up and move forward (and with some encouraging advice from my dad- thanks da) we slapped those suckers on our little hybrid wheels and headed for the hills- quite literally.

he’s the cutest chain guy i ever did see.

after a dark and snowy, dark and rainy, dark and foggy drive- i told kbl that for all his hard work he could have whatever he wanted when we got home.  he requested cornbread.  simple pleasures.

we hit a trader joe’s to get the goods for homeboy’s cornbread, and still made it home in time to get our little hybrid safe and sound in its parking lot before it turned into a pumpkin and charged us a $50 late fee.

tahoe, we’ll be back. -gh

p.s. would anyone like to buy some hardly used chain’s for their honda insight?
